Join us for a Coffee Morning in the Llanbedr and Tal-y-Bont Memorial Hall this Saturday 23rd March (10am–12pm). The entrance fee for adults is only £1 and it’s free for children. The fundraiser is in aid of the Toilet Twinning Charity.
Our giving will improve health and safety for people who don’t have modern sanitation like us. We can contribute something to those who live in the poorest parts of the world. Unicef says that 663 million people live without safe water, and 2.3 billion people don’t have anywhere safe and hygienic to go to the toilet. Women and girls are particularly at risk of attack, because they have to go to the toilet in the open at night.
Bad sanitation is one of the world’s biggest killers, and half the people in the world are ill because of it. Parents worry about the rainy season, because their children get ill. Every minute, a child under five dies because of dirty water and poor sanitation. We’re witnessing the devastating effects that flood water is having on families, after Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. We’re also experiencing flooding closer to home, in our beautiful Conwy valley, with its homes and historic buildings, such as our Churches and Gwydir Castle.
The fundraiser will have an Easter theme. There will be a home kitchen and gifts for Easter, with plenty of cakes, jam, honey, books, plants and seeds for sale, as well as a tombola, raffle and white elephant stalls. All the donations will be used to provide our neighbours with clean water, basic sanitation and hygiene education.
So let’s help to flush away poverty!
