In a first for the Conwy Classical Music Festival, this year festival-goers and visitors to the town can expect to enjoy a range of genres and styles including folk, jazz, and pop in various locations throughout Conwy between the main festival concerts. Venues including the Hidden Chapel, The Blue Bell, Plas Mawr, and the Jesters Tower will host local musicians, including Finn Ambers, Owen Jones & Bethan Taylor, and Paula Darwish, who will give an unusual offering of Kurdish and Turkish folk played on the traditional Anatolian baglama.
Other highlights include the Conwy Songwriters and Poets Society, where a range of poets and songwriters from across North Wales will convene to share their words in an intimate gathering on Tuesday afternoon, and the Conwy Folk Club who will meet at the Comrade’s Club on Friday afternoon for a Festival Fringe special event. Folk performers hoping to perform a spot should arrive early to secure their place! Welsh music will also be well represented, with offerings from Owen Jones and Bethan Taylor on Tuesday night, and Gwilym Bowen Rhys on Sunday 28th, both at the Liverpool Arms.
Looking for a bite to eat before a concert? The pre-festival dinner at the Hidden Chapel might be just the ticket on Wednesday night, setting you up for the Festival-favourite Night at the Opera at the main festival in St. Mary’s Church.
